Anti-aging diet is essentially a lifestyle of dietary habits that will lead you to longevity. It is not necessary a weight reduction diet.  It focuses on overall health, which naturally has an effect for weight reduction.

As you age, your basal metabolic rate decreases. This means that your body’s idle speed slows down. The same amount of food intake during old age is more likely to be converted into fat rather than being used as energy.

First thing you should try is to reduce the total calorie intake. Since your metabolism is slower, you do not need to eat as you used to. By avoiding high calorie containing food, especially hamburgers, hotdogs, candy, and other junk food and watching what you should eat, you can control the calorie intake.

    1. As food intake decreases, metabolism goes down. Free radicals form as by-products of the metabolic cycle of your body decrease. Less free radicals means less cellular damage and less likelihood of cancer and other free radical linked diseases

    2. Calorie restrictions cause an increase in protective enzymes such as superoxide dimutase and glutathione peroxidase, both of which oppose free radicals. Certain hormone production such as melatonin, which has anti-oxidant function, is increased.

    3. Calorie restrictions, if properly carried out through eating more frequent smaller meals rather than few big meals, reduce insulin secretion and stabilize blood sugar level.

From anti-aging perspective, maintaining your ideal weight is critical. Thus diet for losing weight is usually associate with anti-aging method. If you are overweight, engaging in lose weight program is a must in order to delay your aging.
